Useful Gifts for Campers

Who doesn't know it? Suddenly, a birthday or Christmas is around the corner, and you don't know what to give. Therefore, I'm showing you my favorite gifts for campers, which I would also love to receive.

Gifts for campers should primarily be practical and useful. Because weight is limited, and no one wants an Instagram prop that's too heavy.

Here you will find my list of gift ideas for RV fans and newcomers who have just bought their first van.

Here are the best gifts for campers, have fun!

P.S. If you have more useful or creative gift ideas, leave a comment at the end of the article. Thank you!

Magnetic Glasses That Won't Break

Every camper has experienced at some point that wine glasses tend to fall off the shelf. Crash! Then you have glass shards all over the camper. To avoid this, Silwy offers pretty practical glasses with magnets that can withstand any gravel road. They are also unbreakable and look good. Glass has no place in the camper anyway.

Warm Cozy Socks, Not Just for Winter Camping

Anyone who camps and travels in an RV knows that it can get very cold from the ground up in Central and Northern Europe, even in summer. That's why I bought warm cozy socks at the Arctic Circle. They are so fluffy that I can't do without them anymore. No more cold feet in the van!

Alternatively, you can also gift cabin socks (available at Globetrotter). I always take a pair of cozy socks and a pair of cabin socks with me. Everyone loves warm feet.

Road Trip Logbook and Journal

A travel journal to capture all your memories and experiences is a delight for everyone. How about this road trip journal that already has fixed fields to fill out? Of course, there's plenty of space for you to jot down your own notes. Even after years, I often pull out my travel journals and reminisce.

For me, this is a great birthday or Christmas gift for all campers. These are even designed and optimized by me: You can buy my travel journals, view them here in my shop.

Wooden Camper Cutting Board

The cutting board is really a cool gift. I received it for my last birthday. It has a great camper-like print, plus it comes with an integrated cutting knife. Ideal for hikes when you want to have a meal (we call it a picnic) on the go.

A truly useful gift for campers.

Travel Towel (Microfiber - Lightweight and Quick-Drying)

Actually, a quick-drying towel is very useful not only for camping but for travelers in general. These towels take up little space in your luggage and dry incredibly fast. Indispensable in my camping gear.

Since I don't like typical micro towels at all, I've been using this one from Globetrotter in all sizes for years. They are much more comfortable on the skin (fluffy, not leathery), absorb significantly better, and dry as quickly as the "leathery" towels. I take them on every trip.

FRILUFTS TERRY TOWEL - Travel Towel

Headlamp (USB Rechargeable)

For any kind of travel, a USB rechargeable LED headlamp is a "must-have." Not only while camping do you sometimes need both hands free, but also when photographing the Milky Way at night, during early morning hikes, or while camping. I keep my headlamp with me on every trip. I personally use the Petzl Tikka, as it also has a red light LED (useful for safaris in Southern & Eastern Africa). Additionally, I can set different light intensity levels.

Pocket Knife and Multitool "Leatherman"

A good pocket knife is essential in any camping gear. Whether it's sawing something, cutting a cable or wire, or tightening a screw. In my camping kitchen, my pocket knife and a Leatherman are always at hand.

I own both a Victorinox pocket knife (with my own branding) and a Leatherman Wingman.

Water Bottle

Water is especially important to me. Therefore, I always have a separate thermos (currently this one made in Germany), a foldable water bottle (for sightseeing in cities or on short hikes), and a hydration bladder (for mountain biking and hiking). Especially the foldable water bottle and the hydration bladder are practical and space-saving.

Mini Axe

What would camping be without a campfire? Of course, only if it's allowed. To get the necessary firewood chopped, this mini axe is perfect for chopping wood. Small, handy, yet it serves its purpose and is very effective. In Scandinavia (Check out the road trip to the North Cape), it was very useful.

On a friend's recommendation, I bought this Gränsfors Bruks MINIBEIL.

Hammock

I love to relax in a hammock and enjoy a good book. Therefore, I always carry a small, compact hammock for travel. This ultralight hammock made from parachute silk weighs only 850 grams, making it an ideal campervan and camping gadget.

Foldable Water Canister

Far too often, I am too lazy to unroll my hose for a few liters of water at the campsite. Therefore, I have a small foldable water canister with a filling spout with me. You can also use a watering can, but it requires much more space. The canister is really helpful for filling the water tank. A must-have for camping equipment.

Mosquito Repellent: Thermacell

I generally don't worry about mosquitoes since I secure all the windows and the sliding door with screens. However, purchasing the portable mosquito repellent from Thermacell is definitely worth it when you're traveling into nature in Scandinavia. There are healthier solutions, but the coils have not worked at all against many flies and mosquitoes, while Thermacell did. I guarantee this.

You only need a small butane cartridge and active ingredient discs to insert. Right after turning it on, a 21 m² insect protection zone is created. This thing is brilliant. This way, I could enjoy the sunset at a beautiful lake in Finland without getting completely bitten. You don't need batteries or power cords. By the way, the active ingredient is not based on DEET, in case that matters to you.

You can also find the mosquito repellent at Camping Wagner.

Stain Pen

Do you spill as much as I do? I'm really a klutz; a splash of salad dressing or a piece of fresh fruit often ends up on my shirt or pants.

So, I've gotten into the habit of always having a stain pen with me. It's important to treat stains immediately. Nowadays, I always carry Dr. Beckmann eXpress stain pen while traveling.

For clumsy people like me, the stain remover for greasy foods & sauces (oil, ketchup, and butter) and for greases & oils (especially when I have my mountain bike or gravel bike with me) is useful for removing chain oil.

Travel Pillow

A travel pillow without down is always a good idea. In my own campervan, having my own pillow means comfort that I don't want to miss.

For travel, I have recently been using the pillow from Blackroll. Often recommended, and now always comes with me - even at home it has replaced my regular pillow. The "Recovery Pillow" is a must-have for travelers. You can roll it up small and compact and stow it in your travel bag. The cover is washable. Since it's not down, it can't get moldy in the damp RV. Due to its ergonomics, it's also ideal for restful sleep.

With this gift, you're sure to make travelers happy. My favorite gadget that I now love to gift to friends and family.
