Great ideas for creating travel vouchers and wrapping cash gifts. Instructions, templates, and tips for city trips, weddings, or globe-trotters.
Giving a travel voucher is a wonderful idea for a milestone birthday or special occasions. I'm not usually a fan of gifting vouchers. However, I can't always avoid it because my mother recently turned 70. Her biggest wish was to visit Hamburg again and also to attend a concert at the Elbphilharmonie.
Giving a trip as a gift is always a lovely way to bring someone special joy.
But how can you creatively package and present this travel voucher, consisting of tickets and booking confirmations? Here are some ideas for making and wrapping a travel voucher as a gift.
Here are some ideas I've gathered to creatively make and package a city trip as a gift.
Voucher in a Picture Frame
A simple yet effective idea is to present the travel voucher for the city trip in a picture frame. Buy a white frame and print images of the city for which you want to gift a travel voucher. Decorate the frame with small banners or stickers that say "Voucher" or "For You."
Are you an AAA member? Then you can order a tour kit for free and use the city map as a background.
You can also buy a ready-made frame with a paper airplane and card in the background if you don't feel like crafting. View here on Amazon.
For stickers, this is provided, in case you can't draw in detail on your own.
I also find it cool to include a boarding pass (view here) that the recipient has to scratch off to find out the destination.
If you really don't want to craft, you can buy this finished picture frame for Paris. By the way, it's also available for Berlin, Italy, the USA, Africa, Australia, sailing trips, or hiking holidays.
Crafting a Suitcase
Another creative idea is to make a small suitcase. You can decorate the suitcase inside and out, either by sticking or painting. You can place the voucher for the city trip inside the suitcase. Even cooler is to include small souvenirs, local currency (which can also be printed), or postcards and other little things that match the destination.
Here you can order a two-piece suitcase set and craft it.
For Paris, there's this great sticker set. You could paint the suitcase in the colors of the French flag and depict typical things like the Eiffel Tower, baguettes, or ducks (or cut them out and stick them on).
For my mother, the destination was Hamburg. I found a suitable 3D pop-up card featuring the Elbphilharmonie, which was clearly well-received. For Paris, there's a great card from the same manufacturer featuring famous sights in Paris. This brand offers many more pop-up cards for travel: featuring tents, ships, and more Hamburg cards and many other cities.
Cash Gift Packaging
If you also want to give money in addition to the city trip, there are several options for crafting a special cash gift packaging.
There are many different ways to creatively wrap the money. One idea is to fold the money into small flags or boats and place these on a map of the city.
City Trip in a Glass
One of the most beautiful gifts I've received was a travel voucher in a glass. Unfortunately, it broke recently, and I didn't get a picture of it. Such a shame.
Fill the glass with small souvenirs or postcards from the city you want to gift. You can also add sand or shells if it's a coastal city.
My brother lovingly filled a small boat with flags and sand into the glass. A great gift idea for travelers.
Here you can find great instructions. Instead of a map, simply take cash. For the crafting instructions at Whiteandvintage.de
Travel Voucher as a Puzzle
If you want to make the gift even more exciting, you can present the city trip as a puzzle. You can write the letters of the city on cards and place them in an envelope. The recipient then has to arrange the letters in the correct order to find out which city they will visit.
Wanderlust in a Gift Box
Another option is to gift the city trip in a gift box. You can fill the box with pictures of the city, small souvenirs, and of course, the voucher for the city trip. Additionally, you can decorate the box with a ribbon in the colors of the city.
I packed the vouchers and the great 3D card for the voucher into a box. I covered the box with beautiful gift wrapping (Tip: Spray glue is ideal for this). For the tickets, I crafted envelopes in the same style as the box and slipped them in. This way, the overall picture was very harmonious, and the travel voucher appeared more valuable.
DIY Travel Voucher
With a template, you can quickly create a travel voucher. On Pinterest, you'll find many PDF templates and instructions to print out to craft the travel voucher. You can then decorate the voucher with pictures of the city and small souvenirs.
If you don't feel like crafting, I gladly repeat the tip about the boarding pass, where the destination has to be scratched off.
More Ideas for Gift Wrapping a Trip
There are many other creative ideas for wrapping a travel voucher. Here are a few more:
Theme: Beach
Decorate a tray with decorative sand, shells, a sailboat, a lighthouse, and a deck chair or beach chair. Place a small camera and a treasure chest. You can hide either the cash gift or the voucher inside.
Theme Wedding: Cake from the Baker
When friends got married and wanted a cash gift for their honeymoon trip to Australia, we pooled our resources and ordered a special occasion cake from the famous baker in Heidelberg. Candies shaped like dolphins, kangaroos, surfboards, and a hefty dose of wanderlust. In the center was a small chest containing our collected money. A fantastic memory.
More Ideas for a Cash Gift?
Do you have further ideas for wrapping a cash gift or voucher for traveling? The most important thing, in my opinion, is that the gift comes from the heart. Who wouldn't be happy if the packaging of the voucher is creative and something special?
I hope my collection of these creative ideas helped you, and giving the city trip makes someone very happy. Don't make the mistake I did of thinking about how to beautifully wrap the gift the night before the important (in our case, significant) birthday. After all, the 3D card for Hamburg was bought beforehand. Next time, I'll use a picture frame and typical items for the location or a gift in a glass.
