Restaurants in Sylt
Are you currently planning a vacation in Sylt? Or are you even there right now? The North Sea island offers many culinary options. Whether it's good and affordable or Michelin-star cuisine with star chefs, everyone will find something to satisfy their tastes. Ask the locals where they like to eat!
During our one-week stay, we indulged in everything the island had to offer, from breakfast and various snacks in between to cozy dinners.
In this article, you will find our best restaurant tips for Sylt!
Enjoy reading!
Boat Hall Gosch (List)
The story of Gosch began in the boat hall in List. If you're in the mood for fish, you'll certainly find something here. We visited during lunchtime. Unfortunately, our expectations were not fully met. The self-service food was relatively expensive and not the best quality. For a quick bite, in our opinion, a fish sandwich is more than sufficient.
A few days later, we visited Gosch's Canapé Bar in the Old Tonne Hall. It is located directly across from the first Gosch in the boat hall. We tried the fish sandwiches and canapés. Both were really delicious! Definitely the better choice if you're in the harbor in List.
Every vacationer in Sylt will tell you that visiting the boat hall is one of the top attractions. The stores are widespread throughout the island, so of course we ate here too. Whether you must eat here? You decide for yourself.
Address: Am Hafen 200, 25992 List
Opening hours: In summer daily from 12 PM until closing. In winter daily from 11:30 AM to 9 PM
Buhne 16 (Kampen)
Decades ago, the founder of Buhne 16 brought surfing to Germany. Buhne 16 became famous thanks to Gunter Sachs and Brigitte Bardot, who tanned here on the nude beach.
Buhne 16 is sheltered behind a dune and is perfect for a few cold drinks in the sun. Unfortunately, our food was a bit of a letdown: the turkey salad was dry, and the Arrabbiata shrimp spaghetti was also dry.
The only tasty item was the potato with shrimp. Overall, it was rather one of the lowlights in Sylt. Too bad, because the atmosphere here is really relaxed. With cold drinks, you're better served here.
Address: Listlandstraße 133b, 25980 Kampen (Sylt)
Opening hours: Daily from 10 AM
Kupferkanne (Kampen)
Everyone will recommend the famous café. 'You must go there, it's so cozy.' We felt the same when we entered the maze-like, winding garden. In search of a coveted shady spot, we were kindly assisted by a waiter.
We were here for breakfast. You should definitely not miss out on the cakes.
Address: Stapelhooger Wai 7, 25999 Kampen
Sylter Eismanufaktur (List)
At the island's most famous ice cream parlor, you must try the homemade quark-salted caramel ice cream! The ice cream shop has long ceased to be a secret tip, and even in the rain, people line up for a scoop of ice cream.
At the Sylter Eismanufaktur, you can also buy the delicious 'harbor water.' A hazelnut spirit based on vodka, distilled with Sylt North Sea water. The perfect souvenir for schnapps lovers.
Address: Dünenstraße 3, 25992 List
Sylter Soups (List)
At the parking lot of the Sylter Eismanufaktur, there's a small, lovingly designed cart: The Sylter Soups. Here, only homemade soups are served. You can enjoy them to-go or right on site.
Address: Dünenstraße 1, 25992 List
Voigts Old Bakery (List)
At Voigts Old Bakery at the entrance of List, you can sit in a large garden and enjoy delicious salads and pancakes. We especially loved the blueberry pancake and the homemade iced tea, so much so that we forgot to take a nice picture! Reasonably priced for Sylt standards.
Address: Süderhörn 2, 25992 List
Sansibar (Rantum)
The world-famous Sansibar in Rantum thrives on its name. The celebrity density is high, and the restaurant is usually booked out more than a year in advance. In summer, the parking lot is often closed by midday due to overcrowding.
If you still want to try the delicious currywurst with fried potatoes or fries, we highly recommend visiting in the afternoon. During the day, there's usually always a spot outside, as we found when we were returning from Hörnum.
The wine list is as thick as a phone book used to be. The daily specials change. In the evening, you will be served different dishes.
Address: Hörnumer Str. 80, 25980 Sylt
Samoa Seepferdchen (Rantum)
Next to the famous Sansibar is the Samoa Seepferdchen. If you don't want to reserve a table at Sansibar a year in advance, you should try here. The wooden hut with outdoor dining is right in the dunes and convinced us completely with its cuisine.
In terms of taste, it's truly top-notch. The price level is relatively high, but the service is excellent. Treat yourself to dinner here: especially the scallops with horseradish are a delight. We called spontaneously and reserved a table, which worked out perfectly.
Address: Hörnumer Str. 70, 25980 Sylt
Twisters (Wenningstedt)
The supposedly best burgers can be found at Twisters on the beachfront promenade of Wenningstedt. Unfortunately, we might have been unlucky. The three Rocky Point burgers with goat cheese, walnuts, figs, honey dates, and fig mustard had very dry meat.
The Twisters (curly fries) and sweet potato fries were very tasty. Hannah enjoyed a lamb chili and was very satisfied with it. Maybe we just had a bad day. Before our trip, Twisters had been highly recommended to us multiple times!
Address: Dünenstraße 13-15, 25996 Wenningstedt-Braderup

Small Tea Room (Keitum)
When you are already in Friesland, you must of course have tea. There are over 80 varieties in the small tea room in Keitum. From classic black tea to fruity varieties to green tea: everyone can find their perfect tea here. They also offer fresh cakes, waffles, or savory items.
We tried an oven-baked potato with shrimp. It was the best on the island. At the neighboring table, there were sweet treats, but we unfortunately did not have enough hunger to test everything. However, we heard the delightful 'Mmmhhh... delicious!' from them. The service in the small tea room was very attentive, making for a wonderful visit.
Address: Westerhörn 2, 25980 Sylt
Johannes King's Gourmet Shop
If you cannot snag a spot at the Michelin-star restaurant Sölring Hof in Rantum, you should stop by Johannes King's small gourmet shop. The store of the two-star chef from Sylt offers his culinary creations at moderate prices. You can also buy his products to take home.
Address: Gurtstig 2, 25980 Sylt
Creperie by the Sea (Westerland)
When a small hunger hits you on the promenade in Westerland, stop by the Creperie by the sea! In the little stall right on the beach, you can get sweet and savory crêpes to-go or to enjoy on site. We tried the Nutella version with Sylt salt.
A bit unusual but still very tasty. And at €4.50, it's a relatively affordable meal for Sylt standards. To drink, there's of course beer and other cold beverages.
Address: Friedrichstraße 333A, 25980 Sylt
Café Wien/Sylt Chocolate Factory (Westerland)
In this old pastry shop in the middle of the pedestrian zone, we had a delicious breakfast. Highly recommended are the Scandinavian breakfast, Kaiserschmarrn, and the self-composed open-faced sandwiches.
Directly attached is the chocolate factory, which the owners of Café Wien once founded. Be sure to try at least one of the pralines! Mmmmhhh... (in summer, it's better to eat right away!)
Address: Strandstraße 13, Westerland
Beach Box (Westerland)
Buy one of the affordable burgers, go up the stairs to the beach, and enjoy your meal in a beach chair. The prices are actually reasonable for Sylt.
Address: Käpt'n-Christiansen-Straße 40, 25980 Sylt

Sylter Mussels Bistro (Hörnum)
Here you can get fresh mussels caught by the mussel fishermen. If you're lucky, you might even spot the seal Willi in the harbor basin! Look for it, right behind the mussel stand.
Address: Am Kai, 25997 Hörnum
Hafenliebe (Hörnum)
Delicious crêpes can be found a little further down at Hafenliebe. Try the ricotta-raspberry and enjoy a tasty tea with it! Scrumptious.
Address: Hafenstraße 4, 25997 Hörnum

Sylt Tip: It Can Be Affordable
- Self-catering instead of dining out
- Book your vacation before or after the peak season
- Rent an apartment/house or go camping
- Avoid Kampen's 'Whisky Mile' Strönwai, Germany's northernmost luxury street
- Free oysters in List. They are washed up in the mudflat due to climate-related warming
- The further east you stay, the cheaper Sylt will be.
