Best Things to Do:
My Tip: Guided Street Art Tour
As soon as it was clear we were traveling to Glasgow, it was immediately decided: We have to explore the street art! Thanks to Glasgow City Council, there is a beautiful free street art guide "City Centre Mural Trail" available for download.
In the city center of Glasgow, huge artworks adorn some of the city's buildings, forming the City Centre Mural Trail. The best way to discover this art is on a guided tour. Here, I will share everything you need to know about street art and the City Centre Mural Trail in Glasgow.
Ingram Street
Absolute favorite piece: Officially, this artwork by Smug has no title and has been dubbed "St. Mungo" on social media. This piece captivates everyone. The emotion and clarity is simply beautiful.
Location: High Street, descending from St. Mungo's Cathedral / Necropolis.
High Street (Alley)
Another favorite piece: Fellow Glasgow Residents, also by Smug. This piece is incredible. The colors are so vividly bright, and the animals are sprayed so realistically that we stood here for quite a while, examining each individual piece.
It feels like a scene from a fairy tale. Especially the wanderer on the left, who is picking a mushroom from the forest. The other animals depicted in the artwork live in and around Glasgow.
Location: Ingram Street. See more from Smug on Instagram. Right next to it, there are some good bars and restaurants.
Dixon Street
The Hip Hop Marionettes by Rogue One can be found on John Street:
Custom House Quay
Dr. Connolly I presume? by Rogue One is the first of the Billy Connolly murals. You can find another one on Osborne Street (which didn't impress us as much as this one).
Location: Dixon Street. In the summer, you can sit here in a great beer garden (as Tom assured us).
Gordon Lane
The Glasgow Tiger shines brightly, especially with snow on the ground. It is a collaborative project by Klingatron and Art Pistol.
Location: Custom House Quay, near the South Portland Suspension Bridge.
The Barras
The beautiful Panda mural by Klingatron is located on Gordon Lane. Unfortunately, there were too many trash bins blocking it when we visited. The piece doesn't look as beautiful in the photo as it does in real life.
Right at "The Barras," you will find more artworks. Especially, I liked "The Barras Pirate" of the girl with the teddy bear (look out for the eyepatch and the binoculars - it's somehow cute) by Rogue One.
You can read the story behind the face of the "pirate" here.
