Why Visit Slovenia?

Slovenia is very popular among road trip enthusiasts and RV travelers. Additionally, Slovenia is ideal for outdoor activities such as hiking, kayaking, or mountain biking.

In terms of culture, Slovenia has wonderful highlights to offer in the cities of Ljubljana and Piran.

Withdrawing Money in Slovenia

Even though you can pay in Slovenia using the euro, you should have a good travel credit card. When you withdraw cash from an ATM in Slovenia (especially with your debit card), you will incur fees. Therefore, I recommend checking out my article on the best travel credit cards.

Currently, the best free credit cards for traveling are the DKB Bank Debit Card, GenialCard (Hanseatic Bank), and the Mastercard Gold from TF Bank. With a setup of at least 2 of these cards, you can almost always withdraw cash at ATMs abroad for free and pay on-site without incurring foreign transaction fees in other currencies!-> Here you can find all tips from my experience on the best travel credit cards in comparison.

Tipping in Slovenia

The rule is simple: You give a tip of 5 to 10% per service, just like in the United States. Tipping is customary, and you should not skip it if you were satisfied with the service.

Tolls in Slovenia

Slovenia is ideal for exploring by car or RV. The roads are in good condition, similar to those in Germany. However, you must pay a toll for the highway. You can purchase the vignette shortly before the border or acquire it from the ADAC (more expensive).

Best Travel Time for Slovenia

Slovenia is located in a temperate climate zone in Central Europe. Along the Mediterranean coast, there is a Mediterranean climate with mild temperatures year-round. In the Alps, snow falls in winter. Even in summer, you should expect cooler temperatures the higher you go.

In general, the best travel time is said to be from June to September. These months are ideal for hiking and outdoor activities, although it can get extremely hot in July and August.

Experience with Slovenia

Slovenia is delightful and was a pleasant surprise. The small country is perfect for exploring on a road trip by car or RV.

I had no expectations for Slovenia; I just went with the flow and was completely surprised by my enthusiasm. This country is truly a gem in Europe, and everyone should take the opportunity to plan a trip there as soon as possible. I will definitely return.
