Our Travel Reports for Cuba on Our Own in the Travel Blog
Cuba was isolated for many years, preserving its colonial architecture from demolition. Unfortunately, the lack of resources has led to significant deterioration, which mainly contributes to its charm in Havana and Trinidad.
Due to the current severe economic crisis, the population is suffering more and more and remains very poor. There is a real shortage of everything. Unfortunately, cruise ships are now also arriving in Havana, which brings many tourists, but also pollution and unsustainable tourism. Frequent power outages occur due to the dilapidated electrical grid, as well as shortages of gasoline, leaving the population struggling due to the lack of tourists.

How to Pay in Cuba?
Paying with a credit card is still not common, so you should always carry enough cash. However, it has become much easier in recent years to withdraw money with your credit card at ATMs. Note: Credit cards from American banks (such as American Express or Diners Club) are still not accepted. You cannot withdraw cash in Cuba with your regular debit card.
If you want to pay with US dollars, you may incur a penalty of 10%. Leave your dollars at home. Read my article for the best travel credit cards.
Currently, the best free travel credit cards are the DKB Bank Debit Card, GenialCard (Hanseatic Bank), and the Mastercard Gold from TF Bank. With a setup of at least 2 of these cards, you can almost always withdraw cash from ATMs abroad without fees and pay locally without incurring foreign transaction fees! -> Here you can find all tips based on my experience for the best travel credit cards compared.
