Is the Berlin Welcome Card All-Inclusive Worth It? Our Test Shows You (with Alternative City Passes!)

City passes are becoming increasingly popular among travelers and city tourists. The principle is simple: instead of paying for each individual attraction every time, you pay a one-time fixed price and have free entry to many different sights for a certain period of time. In Berlin, there are four such passes: the Berlin Welcome Card, the all-inclusive Berlin Welcome Card, the Berlin Digital Pass, and the Museum Pass.

But which one is right for you? In this article, we compare the city passes and outline their pros and cons. This way, you can quickly decide if purchasing a city pass is worth it!

In this article, you'll find answers to these questions and many more tips about the capital. So, let's go to Berlin!

Variants of the Berlin Welcome Card

The Berlin Welcome Card is the official tourist ticket of Berlin and VisitBerlin, the capital's tourist office. There are two variants:

1. Berlin Welcome Card

The standard Berlin Welcome Card has sold over 12 million copies, making it the most popular city pass in Berlin. It includes a ticket for public transport (within fare zones AB) for the city center of Berlin. You can optionally add fare zone C (Potsdam). However, for most Berlin attractions, zone AB is sufficient. Additionally, you will receive discounts at numerous attractions and museums, with over 180 attractions across Berlin.

  • Thanks to the Berlin Welcome Card, you can easily use public transport in Berlin and conveniently get from point A to point B in the city center. This includes buses, the subway, and trams.
  • Experience many attractions and save up to 50% - that sounds like a perfect city trip! You can also optionally add the Berlin Museum Island.
  • The free city guide helps you get to know the city better, and you might even discover some places you wouldn't have visited otherwise!

2. Berlin Welcome Card All-Inclusive

In contrast, with the Berlin Welcome Card All-Inclusive, you get unlimited access to all public transport in Berlin and Potsdam (ticket for zone ABC) as well as free entry to over 180 attractions and sights. You can also book this option without public transport if you are traveling by car.

The Berlin Welcome Card All-Inclusive is an online tourist ticket and a great way to visit numerous highlights in Berlin for free. Additionally, you have the option to comfortably ride around the city on a hop-on-hop-off bus for a full day, exploring every corner of Berlin. You also receive a city guide and a map to help you navigate the capital!

Whether you still need the latter in today's world is up to you. This card is the ideal choice for a memorable stay in the capital.

The Berlin Welcome Card All-Inclusive costs:

  • For 48 hours 89 Euros
  • For 72 hours 109 Euros
  • For 4 days 129 Euros
  • For 5 days 149 Euros
  • and for 6 days 169 Euros

Which Attractions Are Included in the Berlin Welcome Card All-Inclusive?

We had the opportunity to test the Berlin Welcome Card All-Inclusive for a weekend (3 Days in Berlin) and to share our experiences here with you.

The card is really practical and especially cost-effective when you consider everything included. With the city pass, you can visit many top attractions in Berlin for free or at a reduced price. The attractions included in the card are among others the Brandenburg Gate, the TV Tower, the Checkpoint Charlie Museum, the German Historical Museum, and many more.

What Alternative City Passes for Berlin Are Available?

There are two more alternatives that contain only specific attractions, and I can only recommend them if you only want to use these services, which I honestly don't think are worth it:

Berlin City Card (formerly Digital Pass)

The Berlin City Card is an official product from Tiqets.de, a ticket provider, and contains comparatively few but attractive services for Berlin visitors.

The following attractions can be visited for free with this pass:

Additionally, when you purchase the pass, you receive a 10% discount on tickets for other attractions in Berlin. The catch is that you only get the discount when booking through Tiqets.de.

The pass is a good option for anyone who wants to explore the included attractions at their own pace. There is no time limit, and you can visit each attraction whenever you want.

The individual tickets are sent to you via email. It's sufficient to store them on your smartphone, and you don't need to print them out (saves paper).

The pass costs 59 Euros. If you individually visited the attractions, you would pay 54 Euros and only have the audio guide with information on more than 115 highlights and interactive digital maps. Honestly, I think it's not worth it. I prefer to find information myself or read the information panels on site.

  • Berlin TV Tower with timed entry ticket
  • Pergamon Museum with timed entry ticket
  • DDR Museum
  • Audio guide for all of Berlin

Berlin Museum Pass

Museum Pass Berlin for 3 Days

If you are particularly interested in museums, this Museum Pass is definitely worth it. With it, you get admission to 30 museums in Berlin for a full three days. The Museum Pass costs 32 Euros and is currently only available on the official website of the Berlin museums here.

These museums are included in the Museum Pass:

Here you can find a PDF list of all participating museums.

What you need to know: Always check the current opening hours and review them again on the museum's website. Also, you must plan accordingly since the State Museums in Berlin are closed on Mondays. Other museums are closed on Tuesdays. Every first Sunday of the month, the Museum Sunday takes place in Berlin, during which most museums offer free admission and can be quite crowded.

  • Museums of Museum Island: Alte Nationalgalerie, Altes Museum, Bode Museum, New Museum, Pergamon Museum (currently closed, only the James-Simon-Galerie and the Panorama are open), unfortunately not the Humboldt Forum yet
  • Anne Frank Center
  • Bauhaus Archive
  • Berlinische Galerie
  • German Historical Museum
  • Ephraim Palais
  • Gemäldegalerie
  • Jewish Museum
  • Natural History Museum
  • Neue Nationalgalerie
  • Nikolaikirche

Conclusion - Is the Berlin Welcome Card Worth It?

The Berlin Welcome Card All-Inclusive is highly recommended for anyone looking to perfectly plan their stay in the capital. We had more than enough time with the 3-day option (72h, online ticket) to visit all the sights we wanted and still save a lot of money.

The tourist ticket is not only interesting for sightseeing fans but also for culture enthusiasts and nature lovers: with the ticket, you can enter many museums for free and gain access to over 50 attractions. Additionally, there are discounts available with various providers (e.g., for bicycle rentals).

In short: The Berlin Welcome Card All-Inclusive (as well as the standard Berlin Card) is worth it and is the best city pass - both for a short trip (unfortunately, there is no 24-hour ticket) and for a longer stay in the capital! You also receive some discounts that are worth it.

Moreover, you no longer have to worry about the ticket for public transport or think about which fare zones you need for your subway or S-Bahn ride. Perfect and uncomplicated.

Example Calculation:

Here is an overview of our planning before the trip to find out if the card is worth it:

You save 95.55 Euros per person with the 72-hour Welcome Card All-Inclusive if you visit the listed attractions. If this is your first time in Berlin, the Berlin Welcome Card All-Inclusive is worth it if you follow our suggested itinerary for Berlin in 3 days.
