Unique Experiences, Encounters & Outdoor Adventures
Are you looking for a trip that challenges you, surprises you, and stays in your memory for a long time? Then you are in the right place. Adventure travel means more than just a vacation to me - it's about meeting people, moving, and sometimes pushing your limits. Whether trekking in the Highlands of Iceland, animal watching in Africa, or paddling through the wilderness of Sweden: On this page, you will find my personally tested adventure trips: with honest tips, real experiences, and concrete inspiration for your next big (or small) adventure.
What Adventure Travel Means to Me
For many, the adventure begins only when it's physically demanding or far away. But for me, it's about something else: Adventure is anything that pulls you out of your comfort zone. It's about being open to new experiences - whether you're hiking in Peru with a backpack or taking your camper out alone for the first time.
Adventures Begin in the Mind - and Often Right Outside Your Door
Not every adventure requires a long-haul flight. Sometimes the extraordinary is found in the little things: a night under the stars, an unplanned detour, a meeting with locals. I have experienced many of my most intense moments right in Europe - for example, on the Laugavegur Trail in Iceland or on a winter tour in Lapland.
Between Adrenaline and Mindfulness
An adventure doesn't always have to be action-packed. It can also be about letting go, feeling the moment, and embracing the unknown. That's what I love about this type of travel: It sharpens your senses and makes you awake - to nature, to people, and to yourself.
Your Own Definition Matters
What is an adventure for me may look completely different for you. Maybe for you it's a solo road trip, your first time camping, or a hike without cell service. What matters is that it touches you. And that's what it's all about - creating experiences that are memorable.
I hope this inspires you for your next adventures! If you have more questions or suggestions, let me know.
My Best Adventure Travel Destinations Worldwide
In recent years, I have undertaken many trips where I pushed my limits - physically, mentally, or emotionally. Here I present to you the destinations that I consider to be the most impressive adventures. All experiences were ones I undertook myself - you will find concrete tips, personal experiences, and honest recommendations in each linked post.
Hiking & Trekking
I often experience the most intense adventures on foot. When hiking, you are in the midst of it all, noticing every change in the landscape and feeling the elements up close.
- Iceland: The Laugavegur Trail takes 3-4 days through steaming springs, black lava fields, and green valleys. My highlight: camping in the highlands - under the night sky filled with northern lights. -> Laugavegur Trail: My 3-Day Hike Through Iceland's Breathtaking Highlands
- Tanzania: Climbing Mount Kilimanjaro was physically demanding - but the feeling of standing at Uhuru Peak was indescribable. -> All About Climbing Kilimanjaro
- Peru: The four-day trek to Choquequirao was one of the most challenging and impressive adventures I've ever experienced. The ruins deep in the misty forest, totally without tourists, were the reward. -> 4-Day Trek Choquequirao (Peru)
Safari, Wildlife & Encounters in Nature
Africa & Oceania
Observing animals in their natural habitat - whether on foot, by jeep, or from a boat - is one of the most impressive travel experiences for me. It's often quiet, intense, and emotional.
- Uganda & Rwanda: Gorilla trekking in the dense rainforest had me emotionally overwhelmed. The closeness to these impressive creatures, the rustling in the underbrush, the eye contact - a moment I'll never forget. -> Gorilla Trekking in Uganda
- Australia: Swimming with whale sharks at Ningaloo Reef brought me up close to the largest fish in the world. No hustle, no boats with music, just the quiet glide in the water - a silent, respectful adventure that left a deep impression on me. -> Whale Sharks at Ningaloo Reef
- India (Ranthambore National Park): Seeing the first tiger in the wild was a real hair-raising experience. They are simply the most majestic animals, and beautiful.
- South Africa: Bushwalks with an experienced ranger - with nothing but sturdy shoes, binoculars, and respect for nature - that is safari at eye level. When you read the tracks of a lion or watch rhinos on foot, you realize how awake and present you can be. -> Ranger Training in South Africa
- Tanzania: A circular trip to the most beautiful national parks in Tanzania. Definitely worth it.
Expeditions to Remote Regions
- Spitsbergen (Norway): On an expedition cruise around Spitsbergen, I saw polar bears in the wild - from a safe distance but with a goosebump moment. Plus whales, seals, glaciers, and the endless light of the Arctic. -> Polar Bears on an Expedition in the Arctic from Spitsbergen and Spitsbergen Cruise Experiences
- Kamchatka (Russia): In this remote volcanic region, I was searching for bears, whales, and wild nature. The contrast between the rugged landscape, wildlife observation, and complete solitude was one of my most intense travel experiences. -> Kamchatka Tips
- Brazil: A six-day Amazon cruise on the MS Jangada in the rainforest among pink dolphins and piranhas -> Amazon Cruise on the MS Jangada
- Greenland (Winter): Philipp was on a profoundly impressive journey during the northern lights in ice and snow. -> Greenland in Winter
Adventures in Europe
Not every adventure needs a long-haul flight. Even in Europe, experiences wait that challenge you, touch you, and stay in your memory forever. Sometimes it's the proximity that allows you to set off spontaneously - whether with a tent, a canoe, or hiking shoes.
- Sweden: A week-long canoe trip through the crystal-clear lakes of Dalsland - completely offline, surrounded by forests and water. I pitched my tent on lonely islands, cooked my own meals, and bathed in the lake every morning. -> Canoe Tour in Sweden
Micro-Adventures & Short Breaks
Not every adventure needs to be big or far away. Sometimes a free day, a backpack, and a little curiosity is enough to feel the spirit of adventure. A night in the woods, a bike ride at sunrise, or a snowshoe hike in the Alps - even such micro-adventures are part of a fulfilling outdoor life for me.
